Show Your Shorts is a monthly cable access program in Manhattan. It was started in April of 1996 by Catherine "Cat" DelBuono. She began the show due to the lack of outlets for the short film format. The program showcases short films and interviews with filmmakers and film festival directors. Due to decreasing funds for the arts, the show is needed to support short filmmakers and keep this medium alive. Show Your Shorts provides this need free of charge by showing these works to a mass audience who would normally not have access to such films. Show Your Shorts is unique because it is a program that is devoted entirely to short films and their place in film festivals. We cover the increasing number of shorts in festivals and reveal the positive energy present there. We let our audience see and hear from the filmmakers themselves as they discuss their films and the creative filmmaking process, along with any upcoming projects. This exposure is especially valuable considering the fact that almost every filmmaker gets his or her start with short films. During our time at Manhattan Neighborhood network, we have been awarded two grants to produce special programs and events. This includes two outdoor screenings of short films in Tompkins Square Park, both of which were free to the public. We are now trying to move up the ladder and expand our role as THE show of choice for both our supportive audience and the short filmmaker. |
